The distance-k dimension of graphs

arXiv:2106.08303

Abstract

The metric dimension, , of a graph is a graph parameter motivated by robot navigation that has been studied extensively. Let be a graph with vertex set , and let denote the length of a shortest path in . For a positive integer and for distinct , let and let . A subset is a distance- resolving set of if for any pair of distinct , and the distance- dimension, , of is the minimum cardinality over all distance- resolving sets of . In this paper, we study the distance- dimension of graphs. We obtain some general bounds for distance- dimension. For all , we characterize connected graphs of order with . We determine when is a cycle or a path. We also examine the effect of vertex or edge deletion on the distance- dimension of graphs.
