Resonance photoproduction of pionic atoms at the Gamma Factory

Abstract
We present a possibility of direct resonance production of pionic atoms (Coulomb bound states of a negative pion and a nucleus) with a rate of up to per second using the gamma-ray beams from the Gamma Factory.
About 7 pages, 4 figures. In this version, we limit the discussion to photoproduction of pionic atoms. The mechanism as discussed cannot, in fact, be extended to kaonic atoms
