Abstract

Let be a group. A function of the form for a fixed automorphism of and a fixed is called an affine map of . In this paper, we study finite groups with an affine map of large order. More precisely, we show that if admits an affine map of order larger than , then is solvable of derived length at most . We also show that more generally, for each , if admits an affine map of order at least , then the largest solvable normal subgroup of has derived length at most .
