Abstract
Denote by the Erd{\H o}s--Ginzburg--Ziv constant of , that is, the minimum such that every sequence of vectors in contains vectors whose sum is zero. Let be the maximum size of a sequence of vectors such that, for all integers with sum , we have unless for some . In 1995, Alon--Dubiner proved that grows linearly in when is fixed. In this work, we determine the constant of linearity: for fixed and growing , we show that . Furthermore, for every prime and every , we show that . In particular, for all sufficiently large and fixed .
