Abstract
A subset of a finite abelian group is called -sum-free if In this paper, we extend this concept to compact abelian groups and study the question of how large a measurable -sum-free set can be. For integers and a compact abelian group , let be the maximum possible size of a -sum-free subset of . We prove that if , where is the identity component of , then Moreover, if is nontrivial, then . Finally, we discuss how this problem motivates a new framework for studying -sum-free sets in finite groups.
