Abstract
For an oriented graph , let denote the maximum chromatic number of an acyclic subgraph of . Let be the smallest integer such that every oriented graph with chromatic number larger than has . Let be the smallest integer such that every tournament with more than vertices has . It is straightforward that . This paper provides the first nontrivial lower and upper bounds for . In particular, it is proved that . It is also shown that , i.e. every orientation of a -chromatic graph has a -chromatic acyclic subgraph. Finally, it is shown that a random tournament with vertices has whp.
