Abstract
The level structures of Ra and Ra have been established via time-correlated -ray spectroscopy following the Pb(C,4)Ra and Pb(C,4)Ra reactions. In Ra, levels up to MeV were identified and firm spin-parity assignments were achieved to a isomer with a mean life of 31(3) ns. For Ra the corresponding values were MeV in excitation energy and . Two isomeric states with , ns and , ns were discovered in Ra. The experimental data were compared with semiempirical shell-model calculations, which allowed dominant configurations to be assigned to most of the observed levels.
