Prime geodesic theorem for the modular surface

Abstract

Under the generalized Lindelöf hypothesis, the exponent in the error term of the prime geodesic theorem for the modular surface is reduced to $\frac{5}{8}+\epsilon$ outside a set of finite logarithmic measure.
