Abstract
We determine all integers such that has at most three base- digits for . More generally, we show that all solutions to equations of the shape where is an odd prime, and , either arise from "obvious" polynomial families or satisfy . Our arguments rely upon Padé approximants to the binomial function, considered -adically.
