arXiv:1605.04824

Abstract

Let and be positive integers with , and let be a prime power. A $\textit{partial $(t-1)$-spread}$ of is a set of -dimensional subspaces of that are pairwise disjoint. Let $r=n\mbox{ mod } t$ and . We prove that if , then the maximum size, i.e., cardinality, of a partial -spread of is . This essentially settles a main open problem in this area. Prior to this result, this maximum size was only known for and for .
