Abstract

Given and , a sequence is called a -expansion for if In a recent article the author studied the quality of approximation provided by the finite sums \cite{Bak}. In particular, given and we associate the set Alternatively, is the set of such that for infinitely many there exists a sequence satisfying the inequalities If then has zero Lebesgue measure. We call a approximation regular, if implies is of full Lebesgue measure within . The author conjectured in \cite{Bak} that almost every is approximation regular. In this paper we make a significant step towards proving this conjecture. The main result of this paper is the following statement: given a sequence of positive real numbers which satisfy , then for Lebesgue almost every the set is of full Lebesgue measure within . Here the sequence should be interpreted as a sequence tending to infinity at a very slow rate.
