Constructing large k-systems on Surfaces
arXiv:1403.5123
Abstract
Let denote the genus closed orientable surface. For , a -system is a collection of pairwise non-homotopic simple closed curves such that no two intersect more than times. Juvan-Malnič-Mohar \cite{Ju-Mal-Mo} showed that there exists a -system on whose size is on the order of . For each , We construct a -system on with on the order of elements. The -systems we construct behave well with respect to subsurface inclusion, analogously to how a pants decomposition contains pants decompositions of lower complexity subsurfaces.
