A short proof of a famous combinatorial identity

Abstract

We explain how the identity $$\sum _{i+j=n}\left(\genfrac{}{}{0ex}{}{2i}{i}\right)\left(\genfrac{}{}{0ex}{}{2j}{j}\right)=4^n$$ is an easy consequence of the inclusion-exclusion principle.
