arXiv:1302.3201

Abstract

Let be a semitopological semigroup and denotes the -algebra of all bounded complex valued continuous functions on with uniform norm. A function is left multiplicative \linebreak continuous if and only if for all in the spectrum of , where and for each . The collection of all left multiplicative continuous functions on is denoted by . In this paper, the compactification of a semitopological semigroup S is reconstructed as a space of ultrafilters. This construction is applied to obtain some algebraic properties of \linebreak $(\varepsilon ,\s)$, that $ \s $ is the spectrum of , for semitopological semigroups . It is shown that if S is a locally compact semitopological semigroup, then $S^*=\s \setminus \varepsilon(S)$ is a left ideal of $\s$ if and only if for each , there exists a compact zero set such that and is a compact set.
