Abstract

Let be a -hyperconvex domain of and be the standard Kähler form in . We introduce finite energy classes of -subharmonic functions of Cegrell type, and . Using a variational method we show that the degenerate complex Hessian equation has a unique solution in if and only if every function in is integrable with respect to . If has finite total mass and does not charge -polar sets, then the equation has a unique solution in .
