Discrete Energy Asymptotics on a Riemannian circle

arXiv:0912.4720

Abstract

We derive the complete asymptotic expansion in terms of powers of for the geodesic -energy of equally spaced points on a rectifiable simple closed curve in , , as . For decreasing and convex, such a point configuration minimizes the -energy , where is the geodesic distance (with respect to ) between points on . Completely monotonic functions, analytic kernel functions, Laurent series, and weighted kernel functions are studied. % Of particular interest are the geodesic Riesz potential () and the geodesic logarithmic potential . By analytic continuation we deduce the expansion for all complex values of .
